Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents need to know about registration, practices, games, safety, and gear.

When is registration open?
Registration for the 2026 season is closed. Registration normally runs February 1 through August 21 each year. Interested in 2027? Email wabknights@gmail.com and we'll let you know the moment it opens.
Who is eligible to participate?
All children in grades K–8 who live or attend school in Westford, Acton, Boxborough, or Littleton are eligible. Families from neighboring towns without an AYF program are also welcome — reach out to us at wabknights@gmail.com. A waiver is required if you're outside those four towns.
How much does it cost to register?
Registration fees: Tackle Football — $450 | Cheer — $350 | Flex Football — $195. Fees cover uniforms and all equipment. A discount applies for second and subsequent children in the same family. Full or partial scholarships are available for hardship cases — contact wabknights@gmail.com. No Knight is turned away for cost.
What paperwork is required to participate?
Before the first practice you need: (1) Registration fee paid in full, (2) Original birth certificate with raised seal — no copies or hospital certificates, (3) A physical exam signed by a doctor after January 1, 2026, (4) Signed Participant Contract & Parental Consent Form, (5) Signed Parent Code of Conduct, and (6) Cheer Policy form (cheer participants only). Every form is at wabknights.com/documents and there's a printable checklist at wabknights.com/checklist.
Where do I find the forms and documents?
Everything is on the Documents & Forms page: wabknights.com/documents. It covers player forms, coach and volunteer paperwork, and league rules. Forms without a download link are sent by email — tap "Request by email" on the page or write to wabknights@gmail.com.
When does the season start and end?
Practices begin August 1. The regular season runs late August through late October. Playoffs and cheer competitions can extend things through November. National Football and Cheerleading Championships are held in early December for qualifying teams.
When and where are practices?
Practices run Monday–Thursday, 6–8 PM (max 10 hrs/week before Labor Day; 6 hrs/week after). Pre-Labor Day: NARA Park in Acton or Abbot School in Westford. Post-Labor Day: football stays at Abbot School; cheer moves indoors to Westford and Acton school gyms. Parents don't have to stay but must return 10 minutes before practice ends.
When and where are games played?
The 2026 regular season runs 9 weeks, from August 29 through October 25, with games on Saturdays and Sundays. Home games are played at A/B Leary Field (36 Charter Road, Acton) and Westford Academy (30 Patten Road, Westford). Away dates and times are set by the host association. Players should arrive at least 1 hour before game time in full uniform. Full schedule: wabknights.com/schedule
Can I add the schedule to my phone's calendar?
Yes. Every team has a calendar feed you can subscribe to, so games, time changes and results update automatically. Go to wabknights.com/schedule#calendar, pick your team, and follow the Google Calendar or iPhone instructions there.
What equipment and uniforms are provided?
Football players receive a helmet (with chinstrap and ear pads), shoulder pads, and a practice shirt — valued at over $450 per player. Cheerleaders receive their game/competition uniform and sneakers. All equipment must be returned at the end of the season in good condition.
How much will my child get to play?
American Youth Football enforces a Mandatory Play Rule — every rostered player is guaranteed a minimum number of plays per game: 10 plays (16–25 players), 8 plays (26–30 players), or 6 plays (31–35 players). In most cases players play well above the minimum. Coaches place athletes in positions that best support both the individual and the team.
How do you keep players safe?
Every coach, board member and volunteer passes a CORI background check and signs a code of conduct. Players are fitted with league-approved helmets and shoulder pads provided by the Knights, practice hours are capped by AYF rules, and Flex (ages 5–8) uses modified-contact rules with no scores kept. Have a specific safety or medical question? Email wabknights@gmail.com and a board member will follow up directly.
What is the refund policy?
Full refund if you withdraw before the first practice (all equipment must be returned). $100 refund if you withdraw within 4 weeks of the first practice and return all equipment. No refunds are issued after the first game.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Every Knights family covers 2 volunteer shifts a season (honor system). Every game needs a Videographer, and every tackle game needs a Minimum Plays Keeper; home games also need a PA Announcer/Music, Snack Shack help, and (tackle only) a Chain Gang. Any role or Snack Shack hour counts. See what each weekend needs, open the sign-up sheet and follow the family leaderboard at wabknights.com/volunteer. All volunteers complete a CORI form — wabknights.com/documents. We also need coaches and board help: wabknights@gmail.com.
Is there a code of conduct?
Yes — all players, cheerleaders, and parents sign a Code of Conduct and Rules & Regulations including Attendance Guidelines. Every volunteer, board member, and coach is also required to sign a Code of Conduct and pass a CORI criminal background check.
Who do I contact with questions?
Email us at wabknights@gmail.com with any questions — registration, football, cheer, sponsorships, or anything else — and the right board member will get back to you. Cheer-specific questions: Cheer Director Marcie Day — mday@evvivatrattoria.com
What does the cheer season look like?
Knights Cheer squads (ages 5–14) cheer on the sidelines at every home football game and train for fall competitions, which can run through November with nationals in early December for qualifying squads. Practices are Monday–Thursday, 6–8 PM, moving indoors after Labor Day. Home game days and the competition schedule, including dates, hosts and confirmed venues, are listed at wabknights.com/#cheer. Cheer questions: wabknights@gmail.com.
Can I watch games online or on a live stream?
Yes! Home games are streamed live on our YouTube channel at youtube.com/@wabknights5822. Visit wabknights.com/livestream to watch on the site. Past games are filed into a playlist per team (plus highlights) at youtube.com/@wabknights5822/playlists, so you can find your team's games in one place. Streams typically go live shortly before kickoff and replays are saved on the channel after each game. Subscribe on YouTube to get notified when we go live.
Where can I find the game schedule?
The full 2026 schedule for every team — 8U Flex, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U Black and 13U Gold — is at wabknights.com/schedule, along with results and each team's record. The season runs 9 weeks from August 29 through October 25. Players should arrive at least 1 hour before game time in full uniform.
Where can I find league standings?
Visit wabknights.com/standings for 9U through 13U league standings, including both Knights 13U squads. The page shows the week and date of the latest update, with Knights teams highlighted. Positions, points and Coin flip labels follow the league tables. 8U Flex does not keep scores or standings.
Where can I buy WAB Knights gear and apparel?
Shop official Knights gear — t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and more — at our online team store: stores.inksoft.com/wabl_knights_football/shop/home. You can also reach the store from wabknights.com/shop. All items ship directly to you.
What do I need to bring to the first practice?
Before the first practice you need: (1) Registration fee paid in full, (2) Original birth certificate with raised seal — no copies, (3) Physical exam signed by a doctor after January 1, 2026, (4) Signed Participant Contract & Parental Consent Form, (5) Signed Parent Code of Conduct, and (6) Cheer Policy Form (cheer only). Print the checklist at wabknights.com/checklist. All forms are at wabknights.com/documents.
How does the fall raffle work?
The 2026 Knights Raffle is our biggest fundraiser. Tickets are $10 each and every athlete is asked to sell at least 10. Prizes: 1st — $2,000 toward Patriots tickets plus $100 for concessions; 2nd — $500 cash; 3rd — 55" flatscreen smart TV; 4th — Apple AirPods; 5th — $200 Evviva Trattoria gift card. The team with the highest average sales wins a pizza party, and the top football and top cheer sellers each win a $100 gift card. Fill in the buyer's name and phone and the seller's name on every stub. Tickets and money are due to your coach or Team Mom by October 25; the drawing is October 26. Need more tickets? Ask your coach or email wabknights@gmail.com. Details: wabknights.com/raffle
